Become a Birkbeck Telephone Fundraiser

Join the team of Student Telephone Fundraisers at Birkbeck who are adding valuable skills to their CVs and raising money to support students and researchers across the College.

Telephone Campaigns are an integral part of Birkbeck’s fundraising activity, and we need passionate Birkbeck students to help make it a success. If you are deciding whether to apply or wondering if this role is right for you, here is what some of our previous callers have said about the role:

Excellent pay of £14.40 p/h and the flexibility to pick your shifts!

Annika – 1st year, Postgraduate in Law

“I applied to be a Telephone Fundraiser to earn extra income, contribute to the College and learn new skills. If you’re up for challenging yourself and speaking to a diverse group of people, I urge you to go for it!”

Juanjo – 1st year, Postgraduate in Contemporary History and Politics

“My advice is to be kind, a good-listener and engage in the conversation. I loved the environment and the people were super cool. I have made new friends and I enjoyed talking with alumni and fellow callers as we have so many things in common. I will see you in the next one!”

Christabel – 2nd year, Undergraduate in Law

“I was a bit apprehensive before starting, but everyone you speak to will be lovely and happy to connect with Birkbeck. I have received invaluable tips about how to manage my studies from Birkbeck alumni, who have been so generous with their advice. I’ve also met great people as all the fellow callers were super friendly.”

Sushmina – 1st year, Postgraduate in Children, Youth and International Development

“I applied to be a Telephone Fundraiser mainly because I wanted to learn about the language, system and ways of engaging with alumni to fundraise for campaigns. Remember, while building your rapport, listen for things that the alum shares – this will help you for the rest of the conversation.”

Aliya – Foundation year in Social Science

“The advice I would give to potential Telephone Fundraisers is to enjoy the conversations you have and learn from others along the way. You will be inspired by the stories you hear. I enjoyed being a part of the team, and supervisors were supportive, helpful and fun. I also appreciated them taking into consideration my prayer requirements.”

Alexa – 1st year, Postgraduate in Education, Power and Social Change

“The task may seem daunting at first but the Birkbeck community is very positive and supportive. Most alumni are happy to chat about their experience, and are curious about what you are studying and doing. Even over the phone, you can feel that they want you to succeed.”
