For Birkbeck students, education is a hard-earned and much considered choice. It can often feel like a daunting decision, particularly if they are the first in their family to go to university or it has been a while since they last studied.
This is where you, a Birkbeck graduate, can help.
How it works
Get Talking supports prospective students by offering them the opportunity to meet with alumni.
Meeting a Birkbeck graduate will allow the student to understand what it’s truly like to study at the College, and having a friendly and reassuring conversation with someone who has been through the Birkbeck experience can make a huge difference.
Get Talking will run online from April until August 2021 and we will match you to one or more students during this period based on your availability. We will also be holding a training session in April to ensure you are sufficiently prepared before any meetings take place.
Initially all meetings will be conducted online, however there may be scope for face-to-face meetings to take place in July and August, subject to government guidelines.
|Sunday 18 April 2021||Closing date for applications|
|Tuesday 27 April 2021||Virtual training session|
|May 2021 – August 2021||Meetings will take place online|
Experiences of previous participants:
Over the last ten years, some 250 alumni mentors have met with over 600 prospective students. Here’s just some of the reasons why former students decide to participate:
“Birkbeck is special. The mix of students of different ages, working histories, life experiences and ambitions makes for a unique, interesting and supportive learning environment. Having benefitted from the Birkbeck experience, I want to be able to reassure anyone who is contemplating taking up a place that it is worthwhile, enjoyable, memorable and fun.” Mike, BA Politics, Philosophy and History
“In this continuously changing world it is even more important to encourage people to go for further education and work on their goals.” – Istvan, MA Gender Studies
“Birkbeck gave me a new beginning. I believe participating in the programme will help with that little push that’s needed to begin with.” Melinda, MSc, Business Strategy, Politics and the Environment
